Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)

Humans need oxygen for their cellular function. As the human cells use oxygen in their usual functions they produce toxic metabolites. These toxic metabolites, also known as reactive oxygen species (ROS), can be lethal to the same cells that created them.

ROS is a class of metabolites that are unstable and chemically reactive. One or more of their electrons are unpaired, and this causes them to be highly reactive.

What does ROS have to do with you?

High levels of ROS can lead to male infertility. In as many as 40% of infertile men, the ROS levels are high, whereas fertile men have virtually no ROS.²¹ The high concentrations of ROS can have an effect on sperm metabolism, motility, and viability.

Administration of certain vitamins has been clinically shown to combat ROS.
